Yes. Acupuncture can be safely used alongside most medical treatments and medications. It is commonly combined with conventional medical care (e.g. physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, psychotherapy, and other complementary therapies). Acupuncture does not interfere with prescription medications. In many cases, it can help reduce side effects, improve recovery, and support overall wellbeing while you continue your existing treatment plan.
If you are undergoing medical treatment or taking medications, please let me know so treatment can be tailored safely and appropriately.
-
Most people experience little to no side effects. Occasionally, people may notice mild soreness, slight bruising after treatment. Response is unique - some people report feeling relaxed, tired, or even energised after treatment. These effects are usually short-lived and resolve on their own. Occasionally pre-existing symptoms may temporarily intensify before improving, especially when treating chronic conditions. This is a normal part of the healing response and typically settles with treatment.
-
There is no special preparation needed - simply come as you are. It can be helpful to take a moment beforehand to reflect on how you’ve recently been feeling in yourself, both physically and emotionally. Refraining from heavy perfumes or scented products, and wearing loose, comfortable clothing is also preferable, as it makes diagnosis and access to acupuncture points easier.

Yes, some insurance plans cover acupuncture. Please contact your provider to confirm and I am more than happy to provide invoices or receipts for reimbursement if applicable.

Each session begins with a relaxed, confidential chat. We’ll talk through whatever’s present for you - whether it’s physical symptoms, emotional challenges, life shifts, updates or just a general sense that something’s “off”. From there, I create a treatment tailored specifically to support where you are at. The treatment takes place lying down and involves the use of moxa and insertion of needles in specifically chosen acupuncture points in a relaxed environment.
-
Initially, it is recommended that patients come weekly for about 4 or 5 sessions, with the intention to drop down (bi-weekly, monthly, even seasonally) as treatments hold. The aim of treatment is not to be in regular treatment forever - but rather progress to a state of better balance where acupuncture can function as it was intended - a preventative health system used to keep you feeling well without the need for constant intervention.
-
Like any holistic modality that seeks to bring the system back into a state of balance (often from a place of ongoing imbalance) acupuncture is best not viewed as a one stop quick fix solution. Timelines vary, some people experience immediate relief while for others treatment might take longer. At its most effective, treatment is best understood as a mutual exploration into your current state of health and where you would like to be. Progress will be closely monitored and amended to meet each patient where they are on their health journey.
-
Acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed and trained practitioner. Unlike medical needles, acupuncture needles are incredibly thin (about the size of 2 or 3 human hairs) and I use single-use, sterile, disposable needles for every treatment. When the needle makes contact with the acupuncture point, people feel a dull ache or mild spreading sensation which is a result of the energy in the body being activated. As soon as this happens, the needle is quickly removed. On the rare occasions the needles are left in the skin, you won’t feel any pain, and will actually probably experience a very calming effect over your body.
